In the aerobic digester, the sludge is mixed and aerated so that further reduction of the organic materials can occur. At this point the bacteria consume most of the remaining organic materials and some microrganisms will also begin to eat each other as the food supply dwindles. In the ideal situation, all that would be left is the inorganic material that is then sent to the Centrifuge for dewatering. Our Digester is covered with ground to hold heat to assist the digestion process. This heat will melt the snow and provide plants for the local wildlife to graze on.
